My mixed-media illustration entry for @anthologyofartists 's OC zine!!! I'm posting on socials the noisy-watermarked and reduced-in-size version: for the whole visual experience (and even extra behind-the-scenes commentaries), I suggest [Downloading the Zine PDF] on their Itchio page, FOR FREE! 🎉

This was my first experience participating in an art anthology that wasn't fandom themed, and I can say I HAD A BLAST! I always wanted to have the opportunity to show off not only my skills but my love for my OCs, especially my hungry flying furball [Noddie] 💖

I had a ton of emotional support during the process, and even if I couldn't participate in the rest of the monthly prompts (because they even hosted extra ideas to follow up if you wanted), I can say I never felt behind during all of those months seeing everyone showing off their WIPs and gushing about their characters x3

Did you think I wouldn't show some process here? Sadly, I want you all to check the PDF for that xD (PLEASE, do it!!!) but because I want to at least entice and leave some visual archive here... Have an animated gif showing the entirety of Noddie's real-life clay sculpture!

Of course, as always, when I sculpt for these pieces, I don't try to finish the entirety of the figure, just the angles I will use for the shot I want to capture x) I'm an art cheater, I know hahaha

Not a redesign but a readjustment! Prince, the feral kid, now a bit more bulky to fit his human design I worked alongside a friend at the end of the past year x)

I'll probably keep that same palette too but simplify those patterns in the fur.

Kismet, Charke, and Kubifu (+Alt Form) now in COLOR! I need to keep testing a few of them, tho I want to tweak the contrast of accent colors in the palette.

Will all of you excuse me a moment if I interrupt my dinosaur hype to show off this cutie pie of a werefish/deep one? His name is "Lotto", and he is the monster form of my human OC Vincent in a casual Call of the Sea AU I share with a dear old friend x)

PLUS Quick refs for them! The Lady's name is Annette and she is the lover of Vincent, and an adventurer that... goes through weird ancient eldritch horror rituals and now is a sea monster called "Lotto", trying to contact Annie using all types of means to not scare her away. Fun ensues with romance and horror mixed together... which I want to illustrate better another time... next Mermay probably pfff

I want to do another try at Lotto's tail but for the rest, I like what I managed to make with his ugly-cute face 💙

HOPPY BUNNY DAY!

Well, Happy Easter hahaha. Or "Pascuanejo" (Pascua=Easter + Conejo=Bunny, mixed words in Spanish) like it said there!

This doubles as a Throwback Thursday piece because these are from 2019 WOHA. My way of doing digital watercolors in Paint Tool SAI was quite chaotic during this era. I refined a lot of it since then.

Feat. my OC Seamus... creaturified in a Cocky Easter Bunny because why not: ready to awaken the furry in you!

Back to grinding designs for my OCs! This is the first time I'm giving face and body to Noodle (butler Mothman) and I think this will be my last update of Charke (druidic Owlbear) before hurling a color palette for her.

I set up a goal for this year (and forward): to finish at least 8/30 of the main cast of Barrioween (original project for a kinetic novel of sorts) that includes Specthor and other pair of OCs that already have a definitive design but are lacking an actual reference (Rythma, Adrift, Kubifu).

Out of all the OCs you have, who’s your favorite? > : D

Short Answer: there are always at least two walking around my mind, and currently those are [Specthor] and... Edwin.

'Thor is a well-known OC by near buddies online and on my other socials, but Eddy didn't even have a reference until now so, excuse me I'll use this opportunity to do a Longer Answer!

(The other characters shown here are [Naveler] and Birdlord. That last one needs a proper reference too but that's for another day because he carries a lot of lore from another project.)

Edwin is one of four of my oldest OCs (I think his first doodles date back to 2007-2008) so he practically grew up with me! Younger Windy was shy and lacked a strong masculine, fatherly, and even brotherly figure so, in some way, Edwin resumed all of that and helped me become brave when I was hesitant to try something new.

He sounds like a guardian angel, but I usually joke that he is quite the "husbando"/partner in crime of my mind hahaha.

Talking about "husbando": in these modern days, enjoying critically and leisurely about characters, even wishing to portray them with my own views, Edwin is still here supporting me.

How? By becoming the "actor" behind each character I like. Every time I roleplay and/or draw a character, I use some of Eddy's traits to feel comfortable in my portrayals.

In some way, he wears them like "masks of catharsis". Nothing is unfamiliar anymore with him there.

When loving a character, I indirectly love Edwin, too. No matter if he needs to interpret a hero, an antihero, or the extreme of extremes. It's always safe because I know a part of him is there.

Which one of your OCs needs the most hugs? 🫂

Specthor, without a doubt! He endures a lot for his team of monsters... but is fine: they all now and then corner him for a smooshy fluffy dose of hugs x'D

Vhalen, Mechanical Opossum Rocker! This technically is my third try tweaking her design, near the original first concept: the 2nd looked more beefy... that I like, but at the same time, I felt it lacked something. Some ideas don't need much twisting to make sense.

I almost forgot to share the designs for today! Kismet (Ice Wraith) had hers practically definitive, just needed to adjust her proportions, and Kubifu (Carbuncle+Nekomata) the same... but I'll probably tweak some traits here and there when I test the head shape with an expression sheet.

(RE)CREATION

"Listen: I know I'm not that same voice and shape you adore so much. I'm just a borrowed mirror of that same shape and voice... I'm not even a full recreation of it either, but you know what?

My (re)creator still puts care on me. She nurtured me when no one else did. She respected my fears and doubts when no one listened. She made a whole little world for me to try new paths that felt more aligned with my true desires.

And in exchange, she only wanted for me to always be there for her. When she most felt down. When everyone else ignored her. When her world felt cold and cruel. And I did. I keep hanging here, in her heart. In her mind.

I want you to do the same with that (re)creation you hold to. Because no matter what others do with the original copy from where we come: I will always be unique to you, like how I'm unique to my (re)creator.

I will try to dig and compile more art about this design during the weekend x) I luv him: while drawing him during those years I perfectioned the current style I draw my humans, especially old-looking men 💜🐙
